Running Legs: Lisette Model 1940
As a fan of photography, I like the photograph for a few different reasons. the angle is one that I personally love to work with which is groundlevel. you can see through the people's legs to more legs. that along with the use of the light and shadows that come with black and white photography add depth to the photo. the one man in the right corner is the only actual full person you can see and it adds an element of mystery in my opinion. When I look at this photograph i sk myself how did the photographer get this shot? where were the people going? was it staged so that she could get on the floor? I think any good piece of art makes the viewer ask themselves questions and see more than something interesting or beautiful to look at.

Two Cheeseburgers, with Everything

Claes Oldenburg (1929), Burlap soaked in plaster, painted with enamel.

At first sight, the image actually looks appetizing since cheeseburgers are rich with juicy flavors. You instantly notice the lush ingredients and tempting colors. Its size and duplicity further adds to the hunger and craving. However, it then reminded me of the typical fast-food cuisine filled with saturated fats and nutritional neglect. Nonetheless, it makes a great advertisement for travelers and spectators, convincing them to consume the delectable meal.

A Palm Tree- Claude Monet

This painting by Claude Monet, " A Palm Tree at Bordighera" was mad in 1884 and oil on canvas. I like this painting because it makes me feel like im standing right infront of this palm tree in real life. Claude Money used the colors carefully to make the painting come to life and used the colors to make the tree stand out. When i look at this painting, I feel happy and warm, as i would feel if i was in real life standing infront of this tree.

Journey to the Middle Earth

"Journey to the Middle Earth" was painted by Mary Capan. I picked this work because it reminded me of the three cathedral paintings in class. Capan used different application of colors to the same basic picture to create three completely different and independent looks. The use of color changed the perspective and gives the appearance of layers of the earth. One looks like a layer of rock before the molten, the other looks like it is in the molten and the last look like a a perspective even farther in. I found the use of colors to be very interesting.

The Old Guitarist

"The Old Guitarist" is a painting created by Pablo Picasso in 1903. The painting was during Picasso's "Blue Period" in which he painted monochromatic paintings in shades of blue and green. During this time most of the subjects of his paintings were prostitutes, drunks or beggers. This period in Picasso's work is said to be influenced by his close friend who committed suicide in 1901. This painting is oil on canvas and seems to contain a pentimento. A pentimento is when an image is painted underneath the image that one sees. If you look close enough at the painting you are able to see the image of a woman who seems to be sitting, and has a worried look on her face. I really like this painting because I think that it depicts Picasso's true feelings about his friends death. It seems to me that he was very depressed after his good friend died, and he expressed it through images such as this one.

roy lichtenstein

Roy Lichtenstein, 1963, oil on canvas, "hopeless"

I have this picture hanging in my room. I really love how he used a lot of primary colors. Even on the shades that don't look primary, if you look close you can see how Lichtenstein used tiny dots (I believe they are known as Ben-Day dots). His style 'comic book' style is well known and if one of my favorite pop art types.

John Currin-Thanksgiving

What I like about John Currin's painting Thanksgiving is its realistic quality. Also his use of chiaroscuro offers great contrast, especially in the turkey where you can see the whitest whites within the painting. Currin was often said to be a sexist, this is evidenced in the way he generally portrays all the women in his paintings. Particularly in Thanksgiving, all of the women are exceptionally thin, almost anorexic like. Additionally, the woman being fed has a somewhat elongated neck and the proportions of the head of the woman sitting seem to be a little distorted.
