This painting was done by Pablo Picasso in 1937. Medium is oil on canvas and the painting hangs in the Reina Sophia in Madrid, Spain. This painting is a well known masterpiece of Picasso, even having a magazine and songs named after it. The first time I saw it, the first thing that came to mind was chaos. The figures, including the animals all seem to be in such panic. After doing some research, I found out that this painting was done in response to a bombing during the Spanish Civil War. Not only is Picasso trying to portray chaos, but suffering, especially innocent civilian and even animal suffering. I also found out that a model of this painting can be found at the United Nations, likely to serve as a reminder of what is possible when peace is not kept.
