The Circus

The Circus was painted by Georges Seurat in 1890 to 1891. The medium used was oil on canvas. This painting is a joyous portrayal of a circus performance. Circuses were popular methods of entertainment in the 1890s . The light colors that Seurat used in this painting help to create a jolly and free atmosphere that one would expect to find at the circus. I also personally enjoy the way he encorporated the actions of the performers and the horse jumping in the painting. It is easy for one to imagine the scene being captured in the painting come to life. This way, all viewers are able to experience a fun filled afternoon at the circus.
